Initial Client Enquiry & Electrical Scope Assessment
Hi, this is John Dale from GlobileNet. Just talking about customer interactions. We had a client called Diwas. He was a new customer. He looked for somebody that would come out and have a look at a range of things, actually, in terms of the scope of works that he required doing.
Accumulated Electrical Maintenance Issues & Household Load Demands
Sometimes when you’re in a home, things just collect and collect and collect. It’s only when they get really bad that you think “Oh, my God, I got to fix all those things just like washing the cars”. Anyway, so he had the problem now that he had too many things that were on the list and he needed to get the benefit of removing those so that he wasn’t in trouble with his wife, presumably, amongst other things. Anyway, so after our normal consultative process where we go visit the site, have a good look around, we ended up with 11 items that were actually on the list.
Chandelier Installation Load Rating & Mounting Requirements
Now, there are certain things that are very customer-oriented, like a chandelier. We would not normally supply a chandelier to a client unless they asked us and they knew which one they wanted. Typically, they’re going to order online a chandelier. So we’re often going to be a bit of a guessing game with a chandelier because we don’t know what they’re going to buy necessarily. We usually give them a good idea or a range of prices. Typically, you can look at $400 to $600 to install a chandelier, but that could be $1,000 depending on the weight and the the sophistication of the chandelier.
Creative Access Solutions for Ceiling Mounting Without Scaffolding
In this case, it wasn’t so difficult. We had to be creative, as we generally are, because the space didn’t really lend itself easily to some form of scaffolding. I mean, we can build scaffolding in the worst of places, but it takes time and effort, and you’ve got to deliver it, you’ve got to remove it, and it adds a few hundred dollars to the total process. So we try to avoid that where we can, and most of the time we can, because we know chandeliers, and we know how to mount them from the floor, basically, and raise them up to a ceiling by creating special brackets and things like that.
Multiple Electrical Installations Lighting Fixtures and External Fittings
Anyway, as I say, this list was 11 long. It involved so many different things. You know, this particular person wanted to install solar spotlights in the front of the garage.
Solar Lighting Limitations Battery Life and Warranty Considerations
Now, I usually I don’t recommend solar lights. Solar lights can be very unpredictable in terms of how long they last. Typically, you’re only going to get a 12 month warranty on a solar light. And in my experience, quite often, they don’t last much longer than 12 months. Just coincidentally, they might go 18 months, they might even go two years, but often they don’t last very long at all.
Product Supply and Warranty Coverage for Electrical Components
Anyway. So we did supply, in this case, the solar light, and when we supply, we do provide the warranty that’s provided on the product, and the labour is covered for the warranty period of that product. So you’re safe from the point of view that if it does fail under warranty, you won’t get a labour charge or a product charge to replace it.
Quotation Transparency Supply vs Install Electrical Components
We always list the things that we supply In our quote, the reason for that is that there are some things, like I said, the chandeliers and things like that, where they’re very much in the domain of the customer to decide.
Customer Supplied Electrical Fixtures Doorbell Fan and Lighting
In this case, we listed the things that we were going to supply. We listed the things that they needed to supply, even though we were installing them. That was a ring video doorbell, a chandelier, as I’ve already mentioned, and there was a ceiling fan that the client wanted to supply.
Ceiling Fan Structural Support Timber Installation Requirement
So the trick, really the tricky one on this any building, basically, is when you put a fan in, it really needs to be installed on timber. If you’re very fussy, you want that fan to be very specifically in the middle of two lights, for example, it’s very likely we’re going to have to install a timber.
Additional Works and Fixed Pricing for Ceiling Reinforcement
So in our notes and assumptions that we normally provide, we identify those potential costs. We do charge $85 fixed charge to add a timber, although that may vary sometimes, but especially downstairs, if we’ve got a two-storey house and you have to cut the gyprock, you’ve got to insert the timber, you’ve got to put the gyprock back, patch it up, and so on, and so forth. So $85 on that basis is not very expensive.
Chandelier Support Bracket Fabrication and Load Bearing Fixings
Anyway, so the same thing applies, of course, for the chandelier. If they just had, let’s say, a downlight in the stairwell, then it would not have any timber supporting it. So we would have to make a bracket up. And again, that would be an extra charge.
On Site Client Communication and Real Time Electrical Decisions
In any event, in this case, when we went out, Diwas there and assisting, if you like, in terms of placement of certain lights and things like that, the fans. We could keep him in the loop because he was there.
Transparent Variation Communication for Scope Changes
So we communicate when we see, for example, we have to put timber in, we explain why and how we’re going to do it and what that extra charge is. And we usually just point out in the notes and assumptions, just remember that one’s going to apply, that type of thing.
Project Completion and Electrical Installation Outcome
And at the end of it, it was a very successful installation. They’d never called me back about that solar security light, by the way. That’s about 13, 13 months, 14 months ago.
Customer Satisfaction and Professional Electrical Service Review
Anyway, so Diwas was very happy. He said “John, Ruben and team were very professional. Know what they’re doing. It was a great experience right from taking the quote to completing the job.” So he was very, very happy. And so will you be if you would like to engage with GlobileNet. Thank you very much.
