Long-Term Customer Relationship
Hi, again. This is John Dale from GlobileNet. I’ve had a customer for many years, five or six years ago, I think it was, when he first asked us to do some services.
Initial Satellite Dish Work
And those involved satellite dishes, actually. So he had a satellite dish that he needed removed, actually, or repositioned. So we had to reposition it and redefine the characteristics to pick up the satellite and that sort of thing. So we did a range of different things.
Wide Range of Electrical Services
His problem was really a need for a whole range of services that he typically couldn’t get from one electrical contractor. And because of my experience and our guys having various different experiences, we can generally do anything that comes into the home that includes smoke detectors, it includes burglar alarms, it includes internet cabling and connections, TV connections (although that’s a little bit old hat now), NBN type stuff, and things like that. So we’re not qualified in NPN, by the way, but because we are knowledgeable in them, we can assist people where they have problems and they have needs.
Power Redistribution Problem
And in this case, Jay was so happy that he’s called us over the years. More recently, he had a problem, in that, he wanted to get power redistribution in his home because he had invited a very important religious person to his place and a load of guests, and during the winter, he was finding he needed to put heaters in the rooms for each of the guests.
Circuit Overload with Heaters
Of course, having four or five heaters on similar circuits, it was tripping the circuit breaker and people were going to end up cold. He couldn’t use the air conditioning because it wasn’t zoned properly. So you’d end up with a situation where somebody wants it cold and the other person boiling hot, of course. The problem he was trying to solve was just getting a personalised heating.
Urgent Last-Minute Request
But of course, he rang in the morning and he had his guests coming in the afternoon. And he said “Hey, John, I need you to do this job.” I said “well, aren’t you a little late, JT?” And he said “well, I really need it. I’m so sorry to call you so late, but I didn’t realize I just started plugging in these heaters and I need a solution.”
Evening Emergency Installation
So we went there about six o’clock in the evening and I surveyed the possibilities and I worked out a route that would allow us to get down the cavity wall so that we could get a cable into the switchboard, put a new circuit breaker in the switchboard, run it to a nice place between two rooms so that they could actually have one heater on each side of the wall. So it’s almost a special purpose outlet.
Fast Completion and Happy Customer
But it was all done by about half past seven at night, and he couldn’t be more enthusiastic. He did do us a review as he’s done for quite a few times.
The Trick with Cavity Walls
So one of the tricks in that is working out, how do I get a cable down a cavity wall quickly? Sometimes the obvious is not so visible when you haven’t had experience. But when you’ve had experience in a customer’s premise over the years, you certainly get to know their place. It does make the life very much easier and a cheaper installation for the client.
