Customer Background – Repeat Client Electrical Upgrade Needs
Hi, this is John Dale here from GlobileNet just discussing customer interactions, whether they be small or large. We had a customer, Anand and Sarita, who had dealt with us before on a couple of small things. But this time they had a much bigger fish to fry.
Outdated Switchboard & Porcelain Fuse Safety Risks
They had a problem where the switchboard was really, really out of date. There were old porcelain fuses. They were having some issues in terms of connections. They were looking at whether they sell the house and they wanted to add value in the sale process. So they had a need here, obviously, to be cost-conscious, but to have functional repairs that enhance property value.
On-Site Electrical Consultation & Scope of Works Assessment
On this occasion, as we do, we normally do a consultation. We looked at the switchboard, we took some pictures, we analysed what we would need to do, put a proposal together, explained everything that we were going to do. We always put notes and assumptions on our scopes of works. It’s important because there are certain things that clients need to make note of when we put a proposal or when anybody puts a proposal to somebody. These are the terms and conditions specific to that site.
RCBO Upgrade Risks & Circuit Protection Considerations
So after the consulting process that we went through, we did discuss those notes and assumptions, one of which was, when you do a switchboard, which is not common but happens fairly often, is that when you change the circuits for what are new and very sensitive safety circuit breakers, what can happen is that the circuit that was faulty before, which didn’t look like there was any problems because of the old setup, is now going to cause the the safety circuit breaker to trip.
Main Switchboard Upgrade – RCBOs & Load Centre Installation
So sometimes we’ll do the switchboard upgrade. In this case, it was a main switchboard, used RCBOs or new safety circuit breakers, and a new load centre – it’s a switchboard enclosure that houses everything. And so when we have these RCBO trips, then we have to go and investigate the course, and that will bring up an element of labour that was not figured into the proposal.
Electrical Scope Notes & Variable Fault-Finding Labour
So the notes and assumptions are important. In our case, it will tell you that that’s a possibility, and it will tell you the rates of labour that would apply. But it won’t tell you a time because we can’t actually pinpoint a problem time necessarily. Most of them are pretty simple, by the way. So you’re probably done in an hour. But sometimes you might have to rewire a segment of cable, for example. So it’s important to communicate with the client all the way through pre-installation as well as post-installation.
Successful Installation – No RCBO Tripping Issues
In this case, we did have no problem with tripping circuit breakers, which was great for them and for us. We completed the job. Typically, you’re looking at about four hours for a changeover of a switchboard. You don’t need to really worry about your fridges because if you keep the fridge door closed, they’ll survive probably eight hours without the food being affected. But obviously, you don’t want to be too long, and you don’t want to be opening the door of the fridge every five minutes because the food will go bad, clearly.
Cable Integrity Inspection During Switchboard Works
Then we’ve made sure that the cable is a good one when we do those switchboard upgrades. It’s almost a natural inspection. We can tell if the wiring needs to be rewired in certain ways. In this case, everything was good.
Customer Satisfaction & Quality Electrical Workmanship
So we completed the job. And Anand was very happy. He said “great, fairly priced, punctual, and they do quality work. These guys are not the kind to rip you off. They will do great work.” Now, that’s our motto, really. We really do want to leave a client satisfied. When we send the bill, we want them to feel they’ve happily paid for it, and we love them to do a review, of course.
Call to Action – Reliable & Fair Electrical Services
If you’re one of those that wants to be fairly treated, not overly charged, even though things may not go quite the way you plan, like I said, with the circuit breakers having a fault, then give GlobileNet a call. Thank you.
