Initial Electrical Upgrade Request – Downlights, Power Points & Switchgear Installation
Hi, this is John Dale from GlobileNet. Another customer interactive story. Had Malvern give us a call. He wanted a number of downlights installed, some sockets, dimmers, and switch plates and things like that.

So as we would normally do, we went to see him. Gave him a visit. He’s very close anyway. You know, as I’ve said before many times, the benefit is to both the customer and to myself. When we meet face to face, we can get to understand each other, why we’re quoting what we’re quoting, what he really needs or she really needs. So we take a little bit of time just to go through a consultative process. So that we’re not just there to do the job and walk out taking money. So if you want a solution, you really need to understand what the customer is looking for.

So in this case, they had 3 bedrooms. They were a bit dank because they had a really poor centre light, and what I had advised them at the time was “look, when we replace this light, we can certainly obviously put 4 LED downlights in each of the rooms. But you’re suddenly going to find that you’re so bright that you might want to use dimmers”. Because a lot of customers have, you know, not a lot, but quite a few customers after you do a lighting upgrade go “oh my God, it’s so bright”, you know. So I like to go through that with them, just in case, and just make sure they’re aware.

And that way I can talk to them about whether they want to look at the potential of using dimmers. Typically I’ll give them a price to install a dimmer and change the switch so that they’ve got that capability after we’ve done the install. In this case, they did want one of the lights on dimmers anyway, and there were a few other little bits and pieces that we did.

So, Malvern, at the conclusion of the job, was really, really happy. He said we “did a fantastic job with the downlights in 3 bedrooms and the hallway.” He would be “very happy to recommend to anybody looking for any work in the Hills area”, and that’s where we are.
