Introduction and Customer Call

Hi, again. This is John Dale from GlobileNet. Just talking about more of a commercial installation in this case. Had Roelof give me a call.

The Problem with High Bay Lights

He was having some trouble with high bay lights in a commercial warehouse. They’re typically going to be 8-9 metres high in those high bay places. It’s important to definitely visit the site in this case. I said to him “I would have a look.”

Site Visit and Obstacles

I went out and had a talk with him. Indeed, the lights were very high, but also there was a lot of clutter in the area. It was used for car repairs/storage, so it wasn’t too easy to get around.

Scissor Lift Costs and Options

He did have a forklift. In one of the most expensive tasks in doing this type of thing is getting the scissor lift that will lift you up to the light level. I’d suggested to him that typically he’d be looking at $500. The delivery of a scissor lift is $150 each way. The scissor lift hire is actually cheaper than the delivery, another $150.

Timing and Scheduling the Job

It was quite difficult to arrange a time necessarily when he was open. I said, If you have a tow bar, you might be best getting that lift yourself. And then when you have arranged a day, you tell me and I’ll change the lights.

Replacing Both Lights for Efficiency

Just changing the lights was pretty easy. Now, he had two lights to change. They were both the same style of lights and both had been installed for the same time. I said to him “it would be silly of me not to advise to change the second light as well. Although it’s working, maybe you keep it as a spare.”

Lifespan of LED Lights

But typically with LED lights, they have a certain lifetime. And once you put them up, if one goes, you can probably almost guarantee the other one’s going to go within three to six months because of that. It’s just the electronics and things like that and the characteristic of the lights. So he agreed with that.

Installing the New Lights

I mean, there wasn’t any point bringing another forklift in later. So we picked up two 250-watt LED high bay lights. Then we had the task of maneuvering the equipment around using the forklift. Now, He had actually a fixed hoist in a particular position, and I had to arrange so that we could actually cross that using a ramping technique with a forklift. A little tricky, but not too bad.

Wrapping Up and Extra Advice

But the lights were changed within about half an hour. As he paid for an hour, I did say to him, Well, look, why don’t you give me something else if you’d like me to have a look? So Roelof said “well, okay, thanks. While you’re here, let’s have a look at this. Maybe you can advise on a couple of things.”

Paint Booth Consultation

It was a paint booth that he showed me. There were certain lights in there and I advised him about what to do in changing those lights. So he was really happy overall. I gave him another option to quote for that.

Customer Review and Closing

He removed the forklift and he gave us a great review. So thank you for that, Roelof. And if you’d like to call GlobileNet, please look us up on Google.
