EV Charger Consultation & Load Requirements Assessment
Hi, this is John Dale from GlobileNet here. Just another customer interactive story. We had Sangmin approach us in relation to an EV charger, and we had a discussion over the phone.

I went out to have a look, as I would normally do. We don’t charge generally for quotes unless it’s far away, or there’s some special circumstances.

He expressed an interest in getting a new 15-amp powerpoint wired from the switchboard to the carport, which is fine, but wiring to a 15-amp outlet…it may be better to run a larger circuit so you can upgrade, if you wanted to, a little later.
32-Amp Circuit Upgrade & Future-Proofing Electrical Load
So I suggested to him that we run a 32-amp circuit even though he only wanted a 15-amp outlet installed at that time because the increment was relatively small. In fact, it was $50 difference in this particular installation.

And we were going to extend an old power point to relocate it. He had a gate circuit which was causing him a problem, so we included, you know, some tracking and tracing of the wires and testing of the wires to make sure the wiring was good and what the actual problem was.
Customer Decision-Making on 32-Amp Outlet Installation
So Sangmin was quite happy with the response, and he said, “yeah, I’d like to go ahead, but then maybe I should put the 32-amp circuit”. And I said, “well, yeah, that’s fine”, but then the 32-amp outlet, which is what he actually required instead of a 15-amp outlet now – I suggested that that was going to be a fair bit more expensive because the industrial 15-amp outlets are quite expensive. In fact, it added $150. But, Sangmin was happy to go ahead with that.

We agreed, you know – you’ve got 3-pin or 5-pin 32-amp power points, so it depends on what the customer has bought sometimes. In this case, I suggested he buy the appropriate connector for the 32-amp circuit. So that’s what we ended up with, and we went out and did the installation.

And, you know, everything went to plan. Sangmin was very happy. His car charging was much faster than he originally had thought, because of course he was doing it 32 amps instead of 15 amps from his original quote. So he was particularly appreciative of the time that we spent and the advice that we gave in relation to getting the best outcomes that he could.
Cable Sizing Upgrade: 2.5mm vs 6mm for 32-Amp Circuits
As I say, in this case we went from a 15 amp or a 2.5mm cable to a 6mm cable in this case, 32 amp circuit. It was a relatively short one, so not a big change, but then the industrial outlet is significantly higher than a 15 amp.
