Initial Lighting Upgrade Requirement Indoor Downlights and Outdoor Garden Lighting
Hi, this is John Dale from Globilenet. Just another customer interaction story. This time it was Ali Kabbi. Ali had called us as a new customer in the Hills district.
Existing Lighting Issues Centre Lights and Garden Illumination Needs
He had some lighting that he wanted to look at, and particularly wanted to change lights for downlights, existing centre lights, and he wanted some garden lights and things like that.
On Site Electrical Consultation Low Voltage Lighting Considerations
I went out as we always do. We provide a consulting process, really, talk about the types of garden lights. Sometimes customers feel like “Oh, well, we’re going to have to dig up the garden”, because they haven’t thought about 12 volts lights, and he was in that basket.
12V Garden Lighting System Design Power Supply and Smart Control Options
We talked about our expertise in running 12 volt circuits for garden lights, for being able to plug them into a powerpoint and putting smart switching sometimes on the powerpoint to allow control without going outside from your mobile.
Smart Switching Integration 240V Wall Switch to Wireless Control
And even sometimes putting a switch on the wall, a dummy switch on the wall with 240 volts and putting a smart switch behind it so that when you operated that front panel switch, it actually communicated with the garden light smart switch and turned the lights on that way.
Lighting Control Benefits Automation Scheduling and User Convenience
So you got the best of both worlds – you can schedule lights in that case. You can let the kids turn on the lights without having a phone, etc.
Poor Lighting Performance Downlight Replacement Scope
So his problem was lighting in general in this place was just not very good. And so it was a fairly new house for them. And The extent of this was to remove existing old downlights, actually, and then put in 17 new downlights.
LED Downlight Supply and Warranty Labour Free Replacement Coverage
We provided the downlights in this case. I’ve mentioned before that with some of the products, if they’ve got a seven-year warranty and when we supply them, although there’s a small increment in cost, we do provide a labour-free warranty for that full seven years. So you can call us anytime. We’ll change the light and replace it. And that’s pretty good value for money.
Garden Spike Lighting Installation Outdoor Driver and Power Connection
Anyway, they also wanted some garden spike lights, or rather, we came to the conclusion that garden spike lights were going to be the best for this garden area. We provided a garden driver so that we could install the driver on the outside, the weatherproof one, and plug it into an existing wall outlet.
Electrical Specification Transparency Product Selection and Client Choice
So as always, we always specify what we’re going to supply, and often, not always, but often we’ll specify the proposed light. So customers say “what type of lights do you supply?” I’m very happy to provide that detail. They can look up online then and see what pricing they get. They might say “well, I can get them cheaper direct.” That’s fine. But then they own the warranty, of course. But in this case, Ali had said he was happy for us to supply it. He didn’t really want the problems in the future.
Compliance Check Earthing and Wiring Standards to Australian Regulations
And so the only assumptions we really make is that the existing wiring is compliant to current Australian regulations. That means often when you go to these old down lights, somebody has just wired a Twin, not a Twin and Earth, between these lights and they connect directly and not into sockets. In that case, we have to add an earth wire. There would be a small charge to add an earth wire and make it compliant.
LED Compatibility Dimmer Switch Issues and Flicker Prevention
We also I talk about dimmers because older dimmers, specifically, can cause flicker. So where we see dimmers installed, we do tell our clients that, look, if you’re going to use those dimmers, expect flicker problems, and we can’t be held accountable for that unless we change the dimmer to a LED variant.
Installation Process Downlights and Garden Cable Routing
Anyway, he accepted the quote. As I said, we installed those lights. Nothing particularly tricky there. When we run garden cables, usually we look for the borders, and bury it just under the border so that it’s clear of any whipper-snipper, or something like that. Or it might go back along the fence where whipper-snippers don’t go. But it’s a very rugged, robust cable, so it can float on the garden. And typically with garden lights, you will see cable floating anyway.
Common Fault Prevention Garden Cable Damage Risks
Most of the times when you have a problem with a garden light, the gardeners come around, use the whipper-snipper and slice the cable directly where it comes out of the ground for the light. So be careful of that. If you ever have a garden, make sure they know where those things are.
Customer Satisfaction Completed Lighting Upgrade and Review
Ali was very happy. His review was fair – “honest quotation that was delivered on time and in full. I would gladly recommend John for your electrical needs”, being GlobileNet, of course. Thank you. If you want a quality job installation for garden lights or indoor lights, please give us a call. I’m John Dale from GlobileNet.
