I’d gone there as I normally do and provided some consultation, had a good look around because these were suspended ceilings with gyprock, not removable panels, but gyprock on steel with about hundred millimetre or so gap above the ceiling where it was concrete and all the walls were gyprock-lined with steel frames and our task was actually to run a new wire, not just to install the fan safely but to run new wires down the walls, which can be very difficult in new apartments and people when they wire the apartments, they actually cable tie the old wires to the struts, the steel struts. So it’s very hard to run a new wire, often using the old wire, which is a great way to run a new wire, but otherwise it’s very difficult. So we have to selectively really drill access holes and you need the skill and knowledge to know quite where to put that hole, right?

And you shouldn’t be shy sometimes I see some people drilling a twenty five mill hole, which they’ve got to fill anyway, rather than drill a nineteen mil hole, which they can get their hand up into, so they can really put some, exert some force on some wires or whatever. Anyway, so we’d given the quote to Bruce he actually told me afterwards he couldn’t get anybody else to quote him. So, that’s, I guess, goes to the difficulty of the job, it’s a bit risky, sometimes when you’re quoting those jobs, but you need to be clear about the fact that you may need to create access holes for wires.

In this case, I think we were fortunate enough only to do about 3 holes, and we managed to install timbers above the trusses by strategically selecting the location of the fan, if you like. Anyway, look, we were successful in patching up afterwards so we do, do a patch, but don’t forget, we’re not painters and decorators, we don’t repaint the whole wall so even though we do a reasonably good patch, you’re going to see that patch until you paint the wall properly.

And in this case, Bruce, because we’d had extensive communication about that, was quite happy, and he said he did great job even with extremely limited access, small void in the suspended ceiling, get all three fans connected in a single day.
