Barn Lighting Circuit Fault Investigation

Hi, this is John Dale from GlobilelNet, just a story about a customer with a fault in a barn. This customer was just out in the sticks a bit outside Dural, and he had had this problem where some lights would trip all of the other lights and he just could not figure out where it was and when I went there I dealt with Mark many times before, so when I went there, I said, well, look, I don’t know how this is wired, so we’re going to have to do a bit of track and trace and what happens is we start in some logical place, in my logic, a logical place where I can split the wires so that the circuit can be separated into segments, right?

Electrical Track and Trace for Earth Fault Location

Which is the approach that we used for this one, to cut a long story short, it took us about two hours, but we located the faulty segment of cable and then we could trace to the connected devices on the end of that cable and we found an outside light that had filled up with water, a sensor light. That’s filled up with water and had just caused an earth fault that was tripping the breaker. So, these are quite complicated things sometimes.

Fair Hourly Pricing for Electrical Fault Finding

They can take half an hour or they can take a few hours sometimes. It’s very hard to put a dollar figure on so typically when I approach these things, I say look this is the minimum this is my rate per hour, I expect it to be an hour and a half, for example, but I will tell you when I get to that hour and a half, now that I’ve had a good chance to reassess, what your final figure will be and that gives the customer the choice to say, well okay, just carry on.

Clear Communication During Complex Electrical Fault Repairs

No, I don’t think I’ve had a situation where I’ve been told to forget it, so we carried on and in fact, it didn’t take much longer to find the fault. It was about half an hour after that so, if you’re looking for somebody to treat you fairly price-wise, to keep communicating with you when you have these sort of weird faults cause some electricians are just gonna say, “Yeah, I’m not gonna give you any quotes. It’s just gonna take as long as it takes and you’re gonna pay whatever hourly rate I have.”, so, you want something solved? Come to GlobileNet, we’re looking and waiting for your call. Thank you.
