Two-Storey Downlight Installation Assessment

Hi, this is John Dale from GlobileNet today we’re talking about downlights, Sandy had given us a call and we went and visited. He’s got a two-storey home and it’s surprising how many rooms that you end up with when you count all the toilets and everything else that goes into a home. I think there’s probably about twenty five rooms in this particular place including the garage.

Minimising Ceiling Holes for Downlight Wiring

And Sandy wanted downlights put in but he didn’t want to have too many holes put in the lower floor in particular, which is not necessarily easy. So the first things I look for when I go into a home for downlights, especially with the two-storey is whether they have ducted air conditioning installed, the reason I do that is that ducted air conditioning provides an opportunity because there’s one vent in every room normally. By taking the air conditioning vent out, we can actually drill with extension rods and get to the far reaches of the room, generally speaking. We have to be careful of course because when we drill with extension rods and things like that they’re very sharp.

Safe Electrical Drilling Around Pipes and Cables

If you happen to meet a water pipe in between then you’re in trouble or even a gas pipe. So as we drill through a timber, we put a camera in we have a good inspection of the next piece, make sure that we’re clear, then we put the next extension rod in, then we put the camera back in again and make sure that we don’t have anything there and sometimes we do, in which case we just need to take some evasion techniques, so there’s a lot of tricks in drilling holes without causing a well, a costly exercise for me sometimes. If you were to drill a cable, you’ve got to cut that section out fix the cable.

Avoiding Water Damage During Downlight Installation

But even worse, if you hit a water pipe, then obviously you’ve got water pouring in over a gyprock and you usually pouring out over the floor and then your carpets and your floors are affected. So we like to avoid that if we can.

Professional Downlight Installation Result

So, we were very successful with this particular installation, Sandy was really happy, he said, John and his team were highly skilled and professional, did a very impressive job, and would recommend them to anyone. So, if that anyone is you, why don’t you give GlobileNet a call and we’ll be happy to assist. Thank you.
